The Indian government is starting a new program to help girls aged 14 to 18 prepare for non-traditional jobs. The goal is to boost the number of women in the workforce. A senior official said the program will start soon and will focus on training these teenage girls for careers where women are usually less common.

Anil Malik, the Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, said that the pilot phase of this program will start in the next two to three weeks. In non-traditional jobs, less than 25% of the workforce is usually made up of one gender, whether men or women. This program will offer training to girls aged 14 to 18, close to their homes and schools, while they continue their education. The project is called the “Introduction of Special Project for Empowering Adolescent Girls & Women.”
The pilot program will include training in non-traditional jobs, as well as digital skills, digital marketing, and overall personality development. The goal is to prepare more women to join the workforce.

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, along with other government institutions, Jan Shikshan Sansthan, and training partners of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, will provide this training. The Secretary mentioned that this program will be launched very soon at the highest level of the government and will eventually lead to more women entering the labor force.
