The government has introduced a new electric vehicle (EV) subsidy program called the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme. A total budget of ₹10,900 crore has been allocated for this scheme over two years. This scheme provides subsidies of ₹10,000 for each electric two-wheeler and ₹50,000 for each electric three-wheeler purchased until March 2025. After this, from April 2025, the subsidy for electric three-wheelers will be reduced to ₹25,000. The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) will manage this scheme through the PM E Drive Scheme Portal 2024.
What is the PM E Drive Scheme 2024?
The PM E-DRIVE Scheme has been introduced by the Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, to promote electric mobility in India. The scheme’s goal is to increase the use of electric vehicles (EVs) and reduce pollution. Under this scheme, e-vouchers are provided to buyers of electric vehicles, allowing them to claim demand incentives.
PM E Drive Scheme Registration 2024
The PM E Drive Scheme is replacing the FAME India scheme. The government is investing ₹10,900 crore in the scheme to encourage EV adoption, set up 88,500 charging stations, and reduce the use of petrol and pollution. To apply, you need to be over 18 years old, have Indian citizenship, and possess documents like Aadhar Card, PAN Card, Address Proof, and a Passport-size photo.
Key Points of the PM E Drive Subsidy Scheme
- A total subsidy of ₹3,679 crore will be provided for electric two-wheelers (e-2Ws), electric three-wheelers (e-3Ws), e-ambulances, e-trucks, and other emerging electric vehicles.
- The scheme will support 24.79 lakh e-2Ws, 3.16 lakh e-3Ws, and 14,028 e-buses.
- E-vouchers will be provided to EV buyers to claim demand incentives.
- Extra incentives are provided for purchasing an e-truck after scrapping an old truck.
- It also promotes the installation of Electric Vehicle Public Charging Stations (EVPCS).

The PM E-DRIVE Scheme was officially launched on 12th September 2024 by the Union Minister for Heavy Industries & Steel, Shri H. D. Kumaraswamy. This scheme is aimed at boosting electric mobility and installing more charging stations across the country.

PM E Drive Scheme Subsidy Amount 2024
The PM E-DRIVE Scheme offers subsidies for all electric vehicle buyers:
- ₹10,000 subsidy for each electric two-wheeler buyer.
- ₹50,000 subsidy for each electric three-wheeler buyer until March 2025, after which the amount will be halved.
- Subsidies will also be available for electric buses, ambulances, and trucks, with details available on the official portal.
How to Apply for PM E Drive Scheme 2024
- When purchasing an EV, buyers will receive e-vouchers.
- The PM E Drive Scheme Portal generates an Aadhaar-authenticated e-Voucher.
- The e-voucher link is sent to the buyer’s registered mobile number.
- The buyer signs the e-voucher and submits it to the dealer to claim the demand incentive.
- The dealer also signs the e-voucher and uploads it on the PM E-DRIVE portal.
- Both the buyer and dealer will receive confirmation via SMS.
- Finally, the signed e-voucher is required for the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) to claim reimbursement for the incentive.

Electric Vehicle Public Charging Stations (EVPCS) Installation
To support electric vehicle use, the government has proposed the installation of 22,100 fast chargers for electric four-wheelers (e-4Ws), 1,800 fast chargers for electric buses, and 48,400 fast chargers for electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers. The government has set aside ₹2,000 crore for the installation of these public charging stations.
